The classic 1980’s Commodore 64 takes pride of place on the desk in this magazine advertisement (Dinosaurspen, 2014), showing off its (then) impressive colour screen with a graphical output.

In the background we see a collection of sporting items setting the scene as a middle to upper class home. The clever caption suggests to parents that they need to buy a Commodore 64 to "keep up with the Joneses". It frames the device as a way to give their child an advantage in education.

By contrast, Apple’s 2020 Back-to-School offer (Apple Inc., 2020) focuses on the seamless integration of technology into the everyday lives of students.

It presents technology as ubiquitous and compulsory, highlighting “all-day battery life” (Apple Inc., 2020a, para. 3). The ad showcases a variety of digital applications such as scheduling, video-conferencing, bitmojis, and voice-to-text note-taking, presenting the multitude of ways that students can utilise this technology to make their lives and study more efficient, personalised, and fun-filled.

NOT FOR ASSESSMENT... but just for a little bit of fun because it's soooo funny... and relatable...
